Commensal activities and feasting

One component of Late Bronze Age metalwork that highlights the changing spheres of interaction within Atlantic regions relates to feasting. A number of deposits contained objects specifically associated with commensal activities and these fall into three main types: cauldrons, flesh-hooks, and articulated spits. The former two categories are usually coupled with stewing or boiling meat (or perhaps drinking alcoholic beverages), while the latter one is associated with roasting meat. Notably, the two sets form geographically discrete clusters. Although flesh-hooks and cauldrons or buckets are rarely found together in the same contexts, their spatial distributions roughly overlap.
